Our Philadelphia season of Dining on a Dime continues to make its way through South Philly, heading to the historic Italian Market. One of the hallmarks of Ninth Street, which blossomed in the late 1800s to cater to the city’s newly formed immigrant community, is Anastasi Seafood — a fourth-generation seafood market and restaurant.
Host Lucas Peterson chats with Anatasi’s current owner Janet, who recalls walking by her grandparents’ restaurant on her way to school as a child. Today you might see Janet’s mother at the hostess podium, and her son Sal out on the sidewalk digging through buckets of live crabs. Watch as Peterson chows down on oysters, mussels, chowder, and blue crab, at what some locals call the best seafood restaurant in the city.
