The Eater Houston Heat Map: Where to Eat Right Now

View as Map

This week we head to Houston, a city not yet under the Eater purview, and select ten newish locales that have been garnering serious buzz. This time around, we've been fortunate enough to consult Houston Press restaurant writer Katharine Shilcutt who has shared with us some of her picks.

This undertaking has revealed two main trends: for one, many of these new spots are dedicated to doing one thing and doing it well. Shilcutt explains, "that focus, that determination to make the best crepes (Melange) or the best burgers (The Burger Guys) or the best BBQ (Gatlin's) or the best Italian food (Caffe Bello) or the best Southern comfort food (Zelko) that they can turn out of that kitchen really pays off. It lets diners know that you're serious about giving them a truly well-executed plate of food, something that folks will always return for." The second trend, no mystery, is an emphasis on seasonal and local ingredients.

Here now, the Eater Heat Map to Houston, a chronicle of the city's restaurants of the moment.
