A perfect Manhattan is a little bit sweet and a little bit dry. When it comes to rye or bourbon, though, there is no wrong answer — especially if either spirit is Angel’s Envy, which has been distilling spirits in Downtown Louisville since 2016. Both Angel’s Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Barrels and Rye Finished in Rum Casks are versatile whiskeys that are perfect for enjoying neat, on the rocks, or in your favorite cocktail — like a Manhattan.

Angel’s Envy has partnered with the bars below to offer one-of-a-kind takes on the Manhattan this February, to celebrate the Manhattan cocktail all month long. Here are seven spots around Derby City to celebrate this timeless, elegant cocktail.

Tucked into the lobby of downtown’s Omni Louisville Hotel, Bob’s is the epitome of the traditional American prime steakhouse. Combining elegance and a lively atmosphere, the restaurant offers flavorful steaks that are hand-selected from the top two percent of USDA prime beef — and cocktails that are equally exceptional. Mark this February as a special occasion with The Black Tie Affair, which features Angel’s Envy Rye Finished in Rum Casks, amer, coffee liqueur, Italian aromatized wine, and black walnut bitters.

Set inside the 21C Museum Hotel, Proof on Main features both an intriguing menu and interesting decor. The spot’s most popular cocktail picks boast bourbon — and the restaurant’s Manhattan, dubbed Turini Pass, is no different. Crafted to be the perfect fireside companion, it blends Angel’s Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Barrles, a juniper-forward alpine liqueur, pine-smoked black-tea infused amer, a vermouth blend, bitters, and a palo santo tincture. Proof on Main will also be offering three additional Angel’s Envy Manhattans to commemorate the celebration.

This multi-level restaurant, bar, and event venue is named for Kentucky, which was the 15th state to join the union. In addition to bites on the bottom floor and live music throughout, the social hall features three bars. Each one serves select rotating bourbon and craft beers — plus a one–of-kind Manhattan, of course. Da Vinci’s Vice is a blend of Angel’s Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Barrels, amaro, vermouth, and classic spiced bitters, topped off with lemon zest.

Located on the bottom floor of the AC Hotel by Marriott in NuLu, bar Vetti serves up gourmet pizzas and pasta dishes, as well as a variety of delectable desserts and drinks. Its house Manhattan, known as Tommy’s Never Right, features the restaurant’s Angel’s Envy house barrel pick, “Ninja Kitten,” and is crafted with a mint port wine syrup, campari, amaro, and Calabrian pepper-infused bitters, then is garnished with mint. The campari has been barrel aging in house, and the restaurant’s Angel’s Envy barrel pick was hand selected by the bar Vetti team at the distillery, which is just down the street. For those that enjoy the single barrel Angel’s Envy, there are also bottles available for retail sale.

Part of The Myriad Hotel, which was built on the site of an old disco ball factory, this metropolitan-style restaurant serves everything from hummus brulee and aged-duck paella. Its cocktail offerings are just as unique, and include The Pearly Gate, which boasts Angel’s Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Barrels, amaro, sherry, and orange bitters. Paseo bartenders pour the concoction into a Nick and Nora glass, finish it off with spritzes of pear liqueur from an atomizer, then garnish the one-of-a-kind Manhattan with a sherry-soaked Luxardo cherry.

The mixture is strained into a chilled Nick and Nora glass that has been spritzed with sambuca, then finished with two additional expressions of sambuca and garnished with a dried orange wheel.

Both locations — Against the Grain Public House and Public House Highlands — are known for their variety of tasty craft beers. But Louisville’s first brewer-owned-and-operated brewpub serves up unique cocktails, too — with a hoppy twist, of course. A cherry and an orange peel top it off.
