Long known as Pittsburgh’s Pub, this Outer Sunset staple was the dive to beat all dives – with die-hard neighborhood regulars morning and night, pool and pinball machines, and a rather run-down charm. Today, it’s been revamped (and cleaned up) by the team behind White Cap, but retained much of its low-key locals’ appeal – a place for draft beer and catching the football  game, not a six-ingredient craft cocktail. Still, their classic drinks are more than worth an order, like their take on the Hurricane made with both BACARDÍ Superior Rum and BACARDÍ Ocho Rum. (Perhaps wisely, given the notorious strength of the drink, there’s a limit of two per customer.) 

Far down Taraval Street, just two blocks from the epic Ocean Beach, White Cap is the kind of local bar with personality that any neighborhood would be lucky to have. With real craft cocktail expertise but a laid-back vibe befitting the surfer-friendly Outer Sunset, it’s a place to appreciate a great drink with zero pretenses. While their takes on the Manhattan and Martini are menu staples for a reason, try the summer-friendly Switch Stance – a sophisticated slushie with BACARDÍ Cuatro Rum, lime, and smoked banana.

While locals should feel lucky to consider Lost and Found their neighborhood haunt, it’s worth anyone’s trip out to the Outer Sunset to experience its charm. With no trace of attitude or pretension, it’s a welcoming place for garlic noodles and birria tacos, a hazy IPA on draft, or, crucially, a cocktail. Inspired and well-made, their highlights include the Parkside Punch, made with BACARDÍ Cuatro Rum, Ancho Reyes liqueur, guava and citrus, and salted plum li hing powder.

Some bars can get predictable; others deliver a different experience every time you walk in the door. Madrone Art Bar is the latter. With themed DJ nights, live music and open mic nights, and constantly rotating art installations, there’s always a new attraction, with one constant: the excellent drinks. Don’t miss the cheekily named, tropically-inspired New Wave Haircut, with BACARDÍ Ocho Rum, coconut, and the grapefruit liqueur pamplemousse.

Neapolitan-style Italian fare and an all-are-welcome attitude in the heart of the Castro; what’s not to like? Whether you stop in for happy hour, an indulgent dinner, or the monthly Queen’s Brunch with live drag performances, Vico Cavone is a must-visit. Try the Sapore di Mare, with BACARDÍ Superior Rum, curaçao, orgeat, lime, and a dusting of nut powder; or the Lava, starring BACARDÍ Dragonberry Flavored Rum.

Not quite a Tiki bar, but with a darkly escapist feel to it, Last Rites is an immersive kind of place, as notable for its nine-foot skulls and its barstools made from airplane seats (!) as its elaborate cocktails. Drawing heavily from the rum-heavy world of tiki, their standout cocktails include the No Doctor On Board, pairing BACARDÍ Cuatro Rum with oloroso sherry, brandy, noyaux, gin, curaçao, and pandan cream. 

Intimate, sexy, friendly, and a little offbeat, this Mission District bar is a San Francisco favorite for a reason. Always thoughtful, yet never overwrought, their cocktails are full of personality. Tempting as their notable selections of wine and sherry or their top-notch house martinis might be, it’s worth perusing the cocktail list for something a little more novel – their more creative libations are always first-class. Case in point: the Echa Pa’lante, pairing BACARDÍ Ocho Rum with rose, sake, and vermouth.

Indisputably one of the best bars in the city, “PCH” has weathered it all – not just the pandemic, but a catastrophic fire that destroyed its original location – and come out even better than before. Owner Kevin Diedrich’s drinks are as compelling as ever, thoughtful creations balancing international, often Asian-inspired elements with the very best spirits. This summer? You can’t go wrong with the Miso Old Fashioned (with BACARDÍ Ocho Rum, brandy-based Pommeau, and a miso butter) or the brilliantly named Sweating in a Sundress, with BACARDÍ Cuatro Rum, mango, oat, and cinnamon.

With an expansive patio and low-key, vacation-inspired vibe, Lost Resort is one of the most appealing bars in the Mission, both for its snackable menu and its easy-drinking, but always sophisticated cocktails. Any espresso martini fan will adore the richer, Caribbean-inflected Cafe Con Cuatro, with BACARDÍ Cuatro Rum, Mr. Black Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur, coconut, and cinnamon.
