We were told the best place for barbecue is a gas station, and who were we to judge? We checked it out, and, yep, it was awesome. We sampled the famous Z-man Sandwich (smoked brisket, smoked provolone cheese, and onion rings on a Kaiser roll), some ribs, and pulled pork. And then we needed a nap.

We're from Chicago, so we know a thing or two about pizza. But these wood-fired pizzas, with their crispy but still chewy crusts, were almost enough to change our deep-dish-loving hearts.

First Friday is a monthly party that can't be missed. Literally — there are people everywhere and folks dancing in the streets. We held it down at Ruins Pub, where they feature 40 self-serve taps.

The Foundry

The Foundry is in a bustling part of Westport and is a part of the "Beermuda Triangle," which includes McCoy’s Public House and Beer Kitchen. If you like drinking beer or eating food, you have to make a stop here while in town.

Quay Coffee

With all the beer we drink, we need a caffeine boost to keep us going. Quay hit the spot after a particularly heavy lunch. They offer a bunch of tasty housemade syrups — we went with brown sugar spice — which made an afternoon coffee even sweeter.

This two story bar, full of old-school arcade games, had us feeling like kids again. Well, except for the 40-plus taps of beer.

Kansas City Bier Company

KC Bier Co offers amazingly clean, authentic, German-style beers served in amazing beer garden. The folks here graciously showed us around and shared their brews with us.

Boulevard Brewing Co

Holy cow, this is a beer mecca. We got a tour of their incredible facility and our new friends took us all over the brewery, including the rooftop We love these guys — make sure to stop by when you’re in KC.

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and who are we to argue? We stopped by for a very important meal of slow-roasted pork hash and coffee at this charming little breakfast place.
