East Austin is home to some of the city’s best bars — unpretentious, cozy hangouts slinging great cocktails at honest prices. They aren’t just a place to grab a drink. They’re part of the heart of the city. And the best way to get them back on their feet and keep them pouring is simple: stop by and order a drink or two.

The next time you’re in the mood for a bourbon cocktail, head to one of the local spots below. They’re all serving up drinks made with Bulleit Bourbon, a favorite of ours and local bartenders.

Although it’s only been open since 2017, Nickel City has already earned its stripes as a classic local hangout with a blue-collar vibe. Its deliberately unassuming exterior is an ode to the dive bar, and inside it’s filled with a  sprawling yellow banquette and bartenders serving up known, unknown, and tiki cocktails.  A bar at the back, Cash Only, frequently hosts pop-up bartenders for charity fundraisers, while Delray Cafe, the permanent on-site food truck, slings Detroit-style coney dogs, burgers, tots, and crinkle fries. Get the full experience by pairing your food with a limited time only mixed drink like Once Pecan a Time made with Bulleit Bourbon, toasted pecan sweet vermouth, and orange essence.
