José Andrés, Somehow Not Busy Enough, Is Launching His Own Media Company

José Andrés Media’s first show will be a six-episode docuseries set in Spain, and Andrés promises future projects will be “as creative, fun, inspiring and authentic as our restaurants.”

During the countless crises that have colored the last several years, superstar chef José Andrés has become as known for his humanitarian work as he is for his restaurants. Through his nonprofit World Central Kitchen, Andrés has fed people in crisis zones since 2010, and was even nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2019. And now the chef is looking to expand his reach farther with a media company, succinctly titled José Andrés Media.

This company will, according to Variety, “produce unscripted and scripted television series, books, podcasts, and digital short- and mid-form content with a focus on food-related stories and characters, and the culture of food.” The first project from Andrés will be a six-episode series set in Spain, and will air on Discovery Plus. In a prepared statement shared with Variety, the chef said that it has long been his “dream to launch José Andrés Media… to tell stories about who we are through the food we eat.”

Though the details of Andrés’ upcoming show are still murky, Sam Bakhshandehpour, the president of José Andrés Media, told Variety that the company looks forward “to shedding light on delicious food and the fascinating figures who cook it.”

It’s perhaps unreasonable to think any television host could fill the Anthony Bourdain-shaped hole that’s persisted in our lives since Bourdain’s death in 2018. But if Andrés’ track record as a chef, humanitarian, and apparent All Around Good Guy are any indication of the sensibilities and values he’ll bring to his multimedia work, we at least have some good TV to look forward to.
