Combining dining and shopping in the same space — shelves of chic home goods surrounding a restaurant space, a coffee shop tucked into the back of a clothing boutique — is by no means new. “Concept stores” have existed for years (albeit for a rarefied clientele), and before that we had department stores.
In recent years, fashion and design have more eagerly embraced food, and food has embraced fashion and design right back. Such combos can now be found at nearly every point of the dining spectrum, from the highest-end (like New York’s La Mercerie, which shares an impossibly elegant space with design shop Roman and Williams Guild) to the slightly more accessible (like RH Rooftop Restaurant, located in the furniture behemoth formerly known as Restoration Hardware) to the mundane (ever dined at a Barnes & Noble Kitchen?).
So I was only somewhat surprised to see that shiny wares from Hay, the Danish home goods firm whose products fill the MoMA Store, are now at Sweetgreen. The fast-casual salad chain announced that its newest location, at 347 Bowery in NYC, now features Hay Kitchen Market products for sale, including “cookware, tabletop items, food storage, drinking ware,” plus a few Hay x Sweetgreen collaborative items, like a water bottle and chopping board. So you can order your Guacamole Greens along with a green glass pitcher, a teal acrylic tray, and a cutting board. Like a @starterpacksofnyc meme come to life, why shouldn’t you be able to furnish your entire lifestyle from one place — while on your lunch break, no less?
Things to buy
- This limited-edition deck of chef playing cards features charming illustrations of culinary heavyweights, like Samin Nosrat and Bonnie Morales, who just happen to be women.
- Every chef and their mother will tell you a kitchen scale is essential for precise cooking. This Escali Arti glass digital scale, with its ultra-thin profile and retro colors, comes recommended by Felix chef Evan Funke and is one of the most attractive I’ve seen.
- Publix stans will probably love everything in the supermarket chain’s online store, but especially this Publix green baseball hat.

- It appears iconic candle brand Diptyque is getting into home goods with the forthcoming Diptyque “chic Bazaar.” Textiles, tableware, and decorative trinkets to furnish your impossibly chic, bohemian Le Marais flat will be “available online soon.”
- Spend With Them, an Instagram account run by athlete and entrepreneur Turia Pitt, is highlighting businesses impacted by the Australian fires, including Hillbilly Cider, Cupitt’s winery, Kangaroo Island Spirits, and more Aussie booze brands that’d be more than happy to have your orders right now. (Note: Not all ship so easily to the U.S.)
