Following a showing at this month’s Tribeca TV Festival, the 12th and final season of Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown will premiere on CNN Sunday, September 23. Seven new episodes are set to air — five based in specific locations and two specials — according to a press release.
Parts Unknown Season 12 was in production when Bourdain died on location in France on June 8. The premiere episode, set in Kenya, will be the only one to feature the host’s trademark narration. Asturias, Spain; Indonesia; West Texas; and Manhattan’s Lower East Side will also be featured this season.
The first special episode will cover “how Anthony Bourdain’s unique perspective and voice altered the world of food, travel, and culture and in the process reinvented how audiences watched television and engaged intimately and actively with the world around them.” The second will showcase “Bourdain’s relationship with his crew, the team that traveled with him and slogged through the trenches,” which was “like no other in his life.”
“We believed early on that Parts Unknown would be an exceptional series with an incomparable host and stellar production team,” Amy Entelis, executive vice president of talent and content development for CNN Worldwide, said in a prepared statement. “We are grateful to have collaborated with such an incredibly talented friend and colleague whose prolific body of work and extraordinary personality touched so many.”
New episodes will air on consecutive Sundays through November 11, with an off date for CNN’s pre-election coverage on November 4. More Parts Unknown content will continue to be available via the Explore Parts Unknown website.
