When he’s not playing the cranky grandpa in movies that people typically only watch on airplanes, screen legend Robert De Niro spends his days opening new Nobu restaurants all around the world with his business partner of 25 years, chef Nobu Matsuhisa. The famous friends own dozens of restaurants and a bunch of hotels that tend to attract absurdly wealthy tycoons and Hollywood heavy-hitters. But there’s one very famous person who you won’t find at any of the Nobu restaurants: President Donald Trump.
According to UK gossip rag the Daily Mail, De Niro recently “insisted he would never let Trump into any of the Nobu restaurants.” The star of the Taxi Driver and Raging Bull has made a number of cracks about the president over the last year, and now it appears that he’s taking his beef with Trump to a whole new level. “I don’t care what he likes,” De Niro remarks. “If he walked into a restaurant I was in — I’d walk out.”
Considering that Nobu specializes in sushi, and Trump is a connoisseur of half-bun hamburgers and anything you might find in a TV dinner, it’s unlikely that the president will ever step foot in one of De Niro’s establishments. But the actor’s business partner has a slightly more optimistic outlook. “It’s my dream for Trump to sit next to Bob,” Matsuhisa says. “To make them sushi!’
