- British-based international sandwich chain Pret a Manger is facing a crisis due to mislabeled menu items. A customer with a severe dairy allergy died in December 2017 after eating a sandwich that was marked as dairy-free, the New York Times now reports. Pret a Manger was already under scrutiny due to the 2016 death of 15-year-old who was allergic to sesame seeds and ate a sandwich from the chain that did not include sesame seeds on its list of ingredients. In a statement posted on Twitter, Pret a Manger says it is taking legal action against the company that supplied what was supposed to be dairy-free yogurt for its “veg rainbow flatbread.”

- It seems accurately labeling foods with dietary concerns in mind might not be so easy. One-third of supposedly gluten-free restaurant dishes actually contain gluten, according to a new study reported by Today. Unless a restaurant has a dedicated kitchen to eliminate cross-contamination, it’s difficult to make a gluten-free guarantee.
- Pizza Hut and Cinnabon are making their courtship permanent. The pastry chain’s mini-cinnamon rolls are now a permanent menu item at Pizza Hut locations across America, according to Food Beast.
- Calling all cooks: The British Royal Family is again looking for a chef at Buckingham Palace, per Food & Wine. Back in May, the Royals posted an online “help wanted” ad looking for a demi chef de partie (aka a line cook). Now, they’re trying to lure a sous chef with “competitive salary,” a pension plan with 15 percent employer contribution, and 33 vacation days.

- The Illinois attorney general is suing restaurant groups in Chicago for systematic exploitation of Latinx workers, reports NBC Chicago. The AG’s office claims these companies relied on employment agencies that “essentially acted as central supply houses for a buffet restaurant industry seeking to profit from illegal and exploitative wages and conditions of employment (and) systematically selected and dispatched vulnerable Latino workers to abysmal working conditions in restaurants inside and outside Illinois.”
- Celebrated London Indian restaurant Dishoom is getting its own cookbook, according to the Evening Standard. Dishoom: From Bombay with Love, will be written by co-founders Shamil and Kavi Thakrar and executive chef Naved Nasir, and it is scheduled for a September 2019 release.

A watch, belt buckle, Stetson hat, state-issued driver’s license, and credit cards are among the other items that will be up for bidding.
