Maybe it’s a little bit scary for you to make bread at home, but with a high-tech bread maker from a big brand name, the task of freshly baked bread at home is pretty simple. The objective of this episode of Kitchen Gadgets is to see if the Breville Custom Loaf Bread Maker — at $250 retail — is really worth the price tag compared to the Hamilton Beach at $60 and the Cuisinart for $100.
To help host Esther Choi decide the best of the bunch is chef Sim Cass — dean of techniques of artisan bread baking at the Institute of Culinary Education. “I like to think of [bread makers] as a gateway to making bread in your own home,” says Cass. “I still think it’s a good thing to make bread at home, however you get there.”
