Daniel Humm and Will Guidara, responsible for “World’s Best Restaurant” Eleven Madison Park, opened their first restaurant outside of New York City yesterday. The NoMad Los Angeles takes its cues from the original: Like NoMad in New York, it’s a hotel from the Sydell Group with all-day dining options from the acclaimed fine-dining duo.
In Downtown LA, these dining options take the form of the Mezzanine, a formal dining room helmed by executive chef Chris Flint; the Lobby, a more casual space for food, coffee, and Wi-Fi from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.; and the Giannini Bar, which will serve cocktails, beer, and wine. There’s also a coffee bar on the first floor, and eventually, the Rooftop will open with a standalone cafe and a bar, situated around an elevated pool.
Yesterday, just the indoor spots made their debuts — but guests are already taking to social media to post images of the sky-high ceilings, feathered decor, and, of course, the food.
Opening-night dishes at the Mezzanine included suckling pig, a black truffle tart, carrots with wheat berries, and Dungeness crab. All of it deemed “outstanding” by at least one diner.
The old bank vault (the building used to be the Bank of Italy) provided an ideal backdrop for photos, and stuffed birds competed with the space’s intricate ceilings for Instagram real estate.
Away from the velvet-accented lobby, NoMad LA’s staff received a warm welcome from their East Coast counterparts. NoMad New York staff sent the team a giant pizza, with the NoMad logo in pepperoni, for opening night family meal.
NoMad is now open all day long in LA. Stay tuned to see what else Humm and Guidara have in store for the city.
