- Shake Shack, in tandem with legendary UK chef Fergus Henderson, will grill up an eel burger at the chain’s Madison Square Park location for a limited time only. They’re available — along with the famous doughnuts from Henderson’s restaurant St. John — on September 15 and 16.
- Still seeking to up its image as a premium roaster, Starbucks is unleashing Whiskey Barrel-Aged Cold Brew at select Starbucks Reserve Bars. Meanwhile, at the regular ol’ Starbucks stores, the “secret menu item” du jour is a “pumpkin cheesecake Frappuccino,” which adds cinnamon syrup, vanilla, and white mocha syrup to a Pumpkin Spice Latte.
- Kroger enters the ring as the latest grocery brand to get in on the restaurant game: America’s largest grocery chain will soon open its own restaurant concept, Kitchen 1883, in Union, Kentucky, a city 17 miles outside Cincinnati. It’ll offer “American comfort food” in a “family-friendly setting.”
- Delivery service Postmates is rolling out a subscription-style service that gives members unlimited delivery for $9.99 a month. Call this one Amazon-inspired.
- Groupon’s latest ploy: Couponless deals designed to make users look less like cheapskates. The service allows Groupon users to register their credit cards and receive cash-back deals after purchase, instead of awkwardly presenting a coupon at a restaurant table.
