If the Food Network schedule is any indication, people are still obsessed with Guy Fieri’s long-running show Diners Drive-Ins, and Dives — last night alone, the cable channel aired eight episodes back-to-back during primetime. And nobody in the world loves Triple D more than Bill Grella of Leeburg, Virginia, who has made it his personal mission to eat at as many of the restaurants featured on the show as he possibly can.
Last week, Grella reached his 600 meal milestone at the Carving Room in Washington, DC. “I’ve been from Maine to Florida to Hawaii, to places in between,” the Fieri fan tells the Fairfax Station Connection. His journey began way back in 2008, and for the last six years, Grella has chronicled his Fieri Quest on a blog called "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" Adventures. “Every time I get to a milestone, I say I’ll slow down, but something always pulls me back,” Grella explains. It’s unclear whether those 600 meals were all at different Triple D restaurants, or if some of them were revisits... but really, this is an impressive accomplishment no matter how you slice it.
The Fieri fan asks an employee at each restaurant to add their signature to a book, which he hopes to present to the Spikey One himself someday. According to the Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives fan site FlavortownUSA, Guy has visited over 950 restaurants on the show, so Grella still as some eating to do if he wants to visit them all.
