Massive Cantina and ‘Star Wars’ Hotel Coming to Disney World

The theme park expansion is the biggest in Disney’s history

At Disney’s D23 Expo this past weekend, attendees were given a glance at the model for Star Wars Land including a first-ever look at the exterior of the much-awaited cantina. The interplanetary theme park expansion — which will be called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge — is the biggest in Disney’s history, bringing 14 acres of Millennium Falcon rides, resistance training, and endlessly flowing blue milks to both California’s Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida in 2019.

Fans were previously promised “unique drink concoctions” in the Star Wars cantina bar on both coasts as well as a seated restaurant that will have live entertainment on par with a dinner club, but the model shows just how enormous the shopping and dining marketplace will be. Details and menus are still to come, but Galaxy’s Edge will be completely immersive, meaning that buying (and bartering!) for food and goods with the many human, droid, and alien creature vendors will feel like you’re truly at a space trading post. (Big ol’ Disney nerds will be thrilled to hear, too, the cantina’s DJ was revealed as Rex, the original pilot on Star Tours.)

Are we desperate for details about what’s inside that mushroom-shaped dome? Yes, of course, but take heed that best Star Wars-themed dining experience may not even be in this geeky amusement zone. Walt Disney Parks & Resorts also unveiled plans at D23 Expo for an insane Star Wars-themed luxury hotel with experiential multi-day adventures, views of space out of every window and full-on costume cosplay for its guests, reserving the truest cantina experience for the lucky Padawans who get to spend the night. Hitting the galaxy’s best bar before rolling over in your bed and enjoying a space breakfast that could very well be served by droids?! It’s just too much to handle.

And to think, earlier this summer everyone was just excited about those lightsaber churros.
