Danny DeVito Delivers Masterclass In Theatrical Egg Eating

The actor is a national treasure

For his role in the new Broadway production of Arthur Miller’s The Price, Danny DeVito has to peel and eat a hardboiled egg on stage each night, while delivering his lines. That’s no easy feat, even for a skilled thespian like DeVito. But the character actor has developed a few tricks for executing this bit of stage business, which he revealed to the Times this weekend. Rule number one: “I try to like take a nice hefty amount in the beginning. It’s really good to dig into the yellow, because that’s where like the masticating conflict is.”
