A week before the launch of the Unicorn Frappuccino, Starbucks baristas were complaining about how many steps it would take to make this candy-colored concoction. And now, 48 hours after its debut, employees at the coffee chain across the country are losing their minds over this drink, which has more sugar in it than seven Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
A ‘Bucks crew member named Braden Burson shared a video rant on his Twitter feed, since deleted, wherein he railed against the immediate popularity of this drink and its annoyingly complicated recipe. Burson remarked: “I have never made so many Frappuccinos in my entire life... My hands are completely sticky. I have unicorn crap all in my hair and on my nose. I have never been so stressed out in my entire life."
Meanwhile, Starbucks baristas are flooding Reddit with complains about making this whimsical beverage. One employee writes: “We’re almost out of the blue mucus. Our cold bar counter is bright purple. One of our blenders shattered while making a unicorn with extra unicorn shit.” While another gripes: “It was AWFUL. We just didn’t have the labor to handle the people and how fucking long and involved the drink is.“ These disgruntled employees can at least take comfort in the fact that the Unicorn Frapp is only available for three more days.
But at least one Starbucks barista has a sweet story to tell from Unicorn Frapp Mania. A worker in Arizona by the name of Julie Renee says that a woman requested that she write “you’re gonna be a dad” on a Unicorn Frappuccino cup, because the customer was going to use the drink to tell her husband they were expecting a child. Here’s Julie’s photo of that cup:

Despite the complaints from employees, it’s clear that the Unicorn Frapp is a huge hit with customers.
Will the coffee titan eventually make this mythical beast-inspired drink part of the regular menu? Only time will tell. But for now, Jimmy Kimmel has an idea for another specialty drink that Starbucks could test out:
