One of the perks of working for triple-crunchy, macro-curious lifestyle brand Goop is that your boss Gwyneth Paltrow drops knowledge bombs about restaurants and sea creatures in Slack on the regular. During a recent chat with her crew about Los Angeles hot spots, including Middle Eastern-inspired newcomer Kismet, Gwyneth mentioned that she wouldn’t eat grilled octopus at any restaurant because that animal is “too smart to be food.”
The Academy Award-winner further explained: “They have more neurons in their brains than we do. I had to stop eating them because I was so freaked out by it. They can escape from sea world and shit by unscrewing drains and going out to sea.”

Her #tangent got one “raised hands” emoji reaction, and writer/editor Natasha Young replied: “I’m with you GP.” Paltrow later explained to her staff: “Squid is the dumb cousin” of the cephalopod family, so it’s probably cool to eat it.
Besides Kismet, right now the Goopsters are excited about Los Angeles restaurants Salazar, Cliff’s Edge, Alimento, and Broken Spanish. The crew shared snippets of this conversation as an Instagram story over the weekend, which has since expired, but you can check out more of their chat over on People.com.
