Twitter, normally a grim hellscape offering little more than shame and degradation, produced a rare glimmer of good news last week. A Houston man was on the brink of selling his independent bakery, so his daughter attempted to get the word out and drum up some business by tweeting a video of her dad making pan dulce.
The word got out. As of this posting, Jackie Garza’s tweet has more than 58,000 retweets and 48,000 likes. The video has more than 1.1 million views. Business at La Casa Bakery and Cafe, owned by Jackie’s father, Trinidad, has been booming since the viral tweet was posted, reports ABC 13.

Trinidad Garza is in his early 70s and has been baking since he was 12, according to the Houston television station. He reportedly opened La Casa two years ago, but sales had recently fallen off in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. Jackie Garza’s tweet has brought in well wishes from around the world and, more importantly, brought in a bunch of new customers.
It’s really quite a story, a business being saved by a single tweet. Being a dad of a certain age, Trinidad Garza’s reaction was about as dad as one could imagine. “I didn’t know anything about Twitter,” he told ABC 13. “I’m very surprised.”
