The Philadelphia season of Dining on a Dime has so far focused on South Philly — where much of the city’s inexpensive and casual comfort food can be found. But this episode shows that there’s good food to be had in Philly’s busy central downtown area, especially at Goldie. It’s a vegan falafel restaurant from Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook, the team behind the well-regarded modern Israeli restaurant Zahav.
Where Zahav’s menu spans Israeli cuisine, its little sister Goldie really just focuses on three things: falafel sandwiches, excellent french fries, and tahini shakes. On his visit, host Lucas Peterson orders them all and finds “no weak spot” among them. A popular stop for the Philly lunch crowd, Peterson sets up shop with the ideal Goldie’s spread.
