TV’s favorite restaurant family, the Belchers, will be invading multiplexes around the world in three years when Twentieth Century Fox releases a feature-length film version of Bob’s Burgers. The studio’s chairman and CEO Stacy Snider tells Deadline: “A Bob’s Burgers film fits perfectly with our initiative to redouble our family and animation efforts.” The six-year-old primetime comedy about a family running a less-than-successful burger joint recently picked up the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Series, an award that the program previously won back in 2014.
In a statement about the film, Fox Television chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden outlined their vision for this adaptation:
We know the movie has to scratch every itch the fans of the show have ever had, but it also has to work for all the good people who’ve never seen the show. We also know it has to fill every inch of the screen with the colors and the sounds and the ever so slightly greasy texture of the world of Bob’s — but most of all it has to take our characters on an epic adventure. In other words, it has to be the best movie ever made. But no pressure, right?!
The official release date for the Bob’s Burgers film is July 17, 2020. If you’re unfamiliar with the exploits of the burger-flipping Belcher family, season two’s now-classic finale, “Beefsquatch,” is a great place to dive in.
