McDonald’s thrilled fast-food enthusiasts by giving away 10,000 bottles of the sandwich’s famous Special Sauce on Thursday. For those who weren’t able to snag one of the freebies, there is hope. Unopened bottles of the sauce are popping up all over eBay — but they aren’t cheap.
As of this posting, a search for “big mac sauce” produces 233 results on the auction website. The cheapest bottle is currently listed for $20, and six days remain for bidding. On the other end of the spectrum is a bottle listed for an outrageous $50,000 (or a buy-it-now price of $100,000). Unsurprisingly, no bids have been entered for this one. Should someone actually decide to pony up the absurd ask, the seller claims he will donate $10,000 to the Third World Movement Against the Exploitation of Women, which “provides services to women and children who are survivors of the sex trade in the Philippines, helping them to create a better life for themselves.”

Trusting a stranger on eBay to donate a large sum of cash to charity doesn’t sound like the best idea, but McDonald’s is planning an official auction of its own. The chain says it produced an extra bottle of the sauce, and it will take bids this Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET. Proceeds will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities.
This isn’t the first charitable auction of Special Sauce for the Golden Arches. Last year, the chain’s UK branch sold a bottle on eBay for £65,900 (approximately $95,000). In 2015, McDonald’s Australia auctioned off a bottle for $23,000 AUD (about $18,000 USD).
