"If you're thinking of a wild mushroom, you're probably thinking of death and poison and vomiting," says Ari Rockland-Miller. But, it doesn't have to be that way. In addition to the poisonous varieties, there's a bounty of perfectly safe, tasty mushrooms to be found out in the woods. In this video from Great Big Story, Rockland-Miller and his wife Jenna Antonino DiMare share their passion for wild fungus.
"In the United States alone, there are at least 40 or 50 gourmet, edible, wild mushrooms," Rockland-Miller says in the video. While the fungophiles love the thrill of the hunt, they're careful not to pluck too many 'shrooms. "We don't resell the mushrooms that we find in the forest," DiMare says. "We instead enjoy them ourselves. We pick just enough to share with our family and friends."
