Sometimes even Rambo needs a slice: Sylvester Stallone’s newest project is producing a TV show called Pizza Guy. Page Six says the comedy is “based on the crazy life of Richie Palmer, who fled the Bronx 20 years ago to open Mulberry Street Pizzeria in Beverly Hills, California.” Gossip columnist A.J. Benza is penning the pilot.
Palmer, a former struggling actor who was previously married to actress Raquel Welch, started his pizza career in New York in the 1980s; he moved to LA armed with plenty of celebrity connections to open a New York-style pizzeria in 1992, and Mulberry Street Pizzeria now has four locations in SoCal.
According to internet lore, the pizzeria regularly feeds a number of celebrities, from Drew Barrymore and Mickey Rourke to Rosie O’Donnell and Kato Kaelin. Hopefully Pizza Guy will fare better than Feed the Beast, AMC’s restaurant drama starring David Schwimmer that was widely panned by critics. In the meantime, there’s plenty of other food shows to watch this fall.
