A facet of recent late-night television involves making already ridiculous things look even more ridiculous. Full Frontal host Samantha Bee's latest segment on the now-infamous leader of "taco trucks on every corner" is no exception.
In a segment on MSNBC Marco Gutierrez, a Mexican immigrant and founder of Latinos for Trump, said his culture was "imposing and causing problems." The most-quoted line from that interview was Gutierrez's assertion that without stricter immigration policies "taco trucks [would appear] on every corner" and that this would be a bad thing for the country.
At the time, Gutierrez likely did not predict the effect of his words, which did little to help his cause, but instead rallied actual taco trucks to push for voter registration in a movement perfectly named "Guac the Vote." #TacoTrucksOnEveryCorner gained traction on Twitter, and a taco truck in Detroit parked near a Trump rally and reaped the benefits.
In his latest television appearance, Gutierrez opens himself up to the film crew of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee and to (most likely) additional ridicule for his statements. Watch as he compares Donald Trump with Jesus, and and then promises that he will one day be the governor of California.
