It's True: Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice Latte Returns Today

There's no escaping it

Brace for summer's end: Starbucks' infamous Pumpkin Spice Latte returns to stores today, September 1. Technically, the official return date is September 6, but Starbucks' Rewards customers; those who follow @TheRealPSL on Twitter; and fans who enter their mobile number here all get an early pass.

Starbucks' pumpkin-infused coffee beverage has been a bittersweet sign of summer's end for nearly its entire 13-year existence. Since last year, the drink has been made with real pumpkin, in addition to espresso, steamed milk, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and clove.

Presented without comment, here is a map of expected high temperatures across the U.S. today, September 1.

Fun fact: 200 million Pumpkin Spice Lattes have been sold since 2003, the year when the beverage was introduced. Starbucks' iconic fall beverage has inspired dozens of pumpkin spice-flavored foods, much to the chagrin of everyone that wants summer to last forever.

Starbucks is also releasing a new beverage this year: The Chile Mocha is a blend of cocoa, steamed 2% milk, ancho chili pepper, sea salt, cinnamon, paprika, cayenne chili pepper, and sugar. It's the first time Starbucks has experimented with a deeply spiced warm beverage, but reps say they want to "experiment with heat-forward flavors to see what happens when those warm flavors mingle with coffee and other ingredients that represent the coziness of the season."
