Keith Garrett, owner and operator of All Flavor No Grease, is a natural-born showman. From his driveway on 108th Street in Watts, a neighborhood in south Los Angeles, Garrett cooks up tacos and quesadillas for his community with flair, panache, and an incredible sense of humor that he showcases on his Instagram account, @allflavornogrease. Garrett announces on the account when the food is about to be served, like ringing a dinner bell, then posts again when the food is gone.
In this week’s episode of Dining on a Dime, host Lucas Peterson ventures down to hear Garrett’s story as well as sample some of his famous home-cooked cuisine (a tip of the hat to Eater LA senior editor Farley Elliott, who was among the first of LA’s food writers to notice what Garrett was doing). Garrett prepares beef, chicken, shrimp and lobster — even gumbo — and makes tacos and quesadillas, cutting them in his signature accordion style.
