McDonald's Expanding All-Day Breakfast Menu to Include, Well, Everything

All-day McGriddles drop in September

All-day breakfast has been McDonald's most successful initiative in years, leading it out of a years-long sales slump — so it's no surprise the fast food giant continues to expand on the venture.

Probably the biggest customer frustration surrounding the late 2015 all-day breakfast launch was that the menu was limited. Depending on the region, stores would serve either biscuit sandwiches or McMuffins, but not both, and the McGriddle — arguably the star of the chain's breakfast menu — was tragically absent.

Today, however, McDonald's announced it's finally rolling out one cohesive all-day breakfast menu nationwide, and it includes all of the above, plus plenty of other stuff no one wants (get outta here, fruit and yogurt parfait).

According to a press release, the expanded all-day breakfast menu launches in September and includes the following:

Egg McMuffin, Sausage McMuffin with Egg, Sausage McMuffin, Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit, Sausage Biscuit with Egg, Sausage Biscuit, Bacon, Egg & Cheese McGriddles, Sausage, Egg & Cheese McGriddles, Sausage McGriddles, Hotcakes, Hotcakes and Sausage, Sausage Burrito, Fruit & Maple Oatmeal, Fruit ‘N Yogurt Parfait, and Hashbrowns

Here, a brief timeline of the all-day breakfast evolution:

April 2015: McDonald's begins testing a limited all-day breakfast menu in San Diego. It does not include McGriddles or biscuits, but does include a bunch of other random crap like Steak, Egg & Cheese Bagels and Cinnamon Coffee Cake.

July 2015: In an internal memo, the company suggests franchisees and operators should prepare for a potential all-day breakfast menu as soon as October.

October 2015: McDonald's all-day breakfast launches nationwide. Due to limited kitchen space, stores offer either biscuits or McMuffins, but not both; McGriddles are not on the menu. (Some franchisees reportedly decry the launch as a disaster, griping that serving breakfast and lunch items simultaneously is creating serious chaos in the kitchen.)

January 2016: McDonald's tests the all-day McGriddle waters by rolling out the sweet-and-savory sandwiches 'round the clock at stores in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

March 2016: The company begins testing an expanded all-day breakfast menu that includes McGriddles, biscuit sandwiches, and McMuffins at restaurants in Tulsa and North Carolina.

September 2016: McDonald's shifts to one nationwide all-day breakfast menu that includes everything from McGriddles and McMuffins to biscuit sandwiches, hash browns, and hotcakes. The world rejoices, because everyone knows that — besides the fries — breakfast is by far the most edible thing at the world's second-largest fast food chain.
