Watch Gordon Ramsay Catch Catfish by Hand

It's called 'noodling'

Shouty chef Gordon Ramsay may be a television star with his own mobile video game, but that doesn't mean he's too good to get down and dirty. In this video, Ramsay heads to Oklahoma to find some catfish. But instead of using a rod and reel, he's aiming to catch the fish with his bare hands.

Ramsay learns from some locals that store-bought catfish is plentiful and cheap in Oklahoma, but it's a farm-raised variety. The flavor can't compare with the wild-caught product. So the chef is led out into a shallow river, where he and his pals find catfish holes with their feet. Once a hole has been located, it's up to Ramsay to dive in, grab the fish by its gills, and pull it out of the water. The whole process, called "noodling," proves to be quite a workout.

Once the fishing is done, Ramsay eschews the traditional cornmeal-battered and fried catfish for a spicy, blackened version. Watch the video above to see how it turns out.
