For this episode of Dining on a Dime: Austin, host Lucas Peterson ventures an hour east of the city limits to the legendary Snow’s BBQ in the tiny town of Lexington, Texas. People line up at the crack of dawn to sample the acclaimed brisket of Kerry Bexley and pitmaster Tootsie Tomanetz.
Snow’s was relatively unknown until about eight years ago, when Texas Monthly declared it the best barbecue in the entire state. Open only on Saturdays, the place routinely sells out before noon. The 80-year-old Tomanetz takes her decades of barbecue experience to Snow’s every weekend, painstakingly caring for the ribs, chicken, sausages, and brisket that Snow’s has become famous for. Watch the video above to follow Peterson's pilgrimage to Tomanetz's barbecue pit where he tastes the smoked meat that draws fans from across the country.
