Summer isn't historically big for restaurant openings, but — perhaps atypically — the coming months do have a lot of new restaurants in store across America. Let's run through a few highlights, shall we?

Over in Portland, Oregon, chef Joshua McFadden, of Ava Gene's fame, is spinning off a Pacific Northwest meets the Middle East restaurant called Tusk with the help of a chef from Philadelphia's renowned Zahav. An alum of New York's Per Se is expected to open South-Asian fusion spot Ba Bellies in Atlanta some time in June. And New Orleans is getting a new high-profile barbecue place called Frey Smoked Meat, complete with Nutella-caramel milkshakes.

Speaking of sweet things, the ice cream-filled donut-like "milky buns" from SoCal's Milk · Cream are en route to Dallas. Booze and ice cream will unite at Austin's new Prohibition Creamery. And a spinoff of San Francisco's famous Tartine Bakery called The Manufactory should open by August, complete with an ice cream shop, fermentation bar, coffee kiosk, and more.
