Watch Jimmy Fallon Force Blake Shelton to Try Sushi for the First Time

More sake, please

The sushi craze swept the U.S. in the late 80s, and the Japanese culinary export has become so ubiquitous that it can now be found in practically every American grocery store. There are still plenty of people who've never allowed a piece of nigiri or sashimi to pass their lips, however, including country singer Blake Shelton.

Dating Gwen Stefani may have expanded Blake's romantic horizons, but that apparently hasn't extended to his eating habits. Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon took Shelton on a sushi date, and the results were pretty hilarious.

According to Shelton, sake tastes "like Easter egg coloring," while pickled ginger has the texture of "pre-chewed gum." And things only get worse when the actual sushi shows up: The Voice judge thinks the raw tuna resembles "a human tongue." Shelton and Fallon manage to work their way through five courses — and get progressively drunker — although it seems like Shelton comes close to losing it when faced with uni (or sea urchin gonads, as the waitress so kindly explains).
