Durian is the undisputed king of fruits in Southeast Asia, but it's also one of the most foul-smelling foods imaginable — which is why in Singapore, it's explicitly banned in most public places including the subway, as well as many airlines and hotels. Actress Jessica Chastain apparently developed a strong affinity for the spiky, strong-smelling fruit while doing press tours across Asia for her new film The Huntsman: Winter's War, and she kindly gifted one to Jimmy Kimmel (along with a big-ass knife to cut into it right then and there, and gloves to protect his hands from the stench).
Chastain described the durian's one-of-a-kind taste as a custard that's flavored with a combination of onions, garlic, pineapple, and avocado, admitting that "it kind of smells like a garbage can." The late-night host wasn't quite as fond of the fruit as Chastain, declaring it "on the line between horrible and delicious."
