Burger Throwdown: Shake Shack vs. In-N-Out

Eater's burger expert weighs in

It’s the eternal debate amongst fast food lovers everywhere: which deluxe burger chain makes the best burger? The Meat Show host and resident carnivore Nick Solares recently put the mystery to rest by staging his own personal taste-test face-off — in one of the only cities where it would be possible.

Austin, Texas is one of the few places in the country that boasts locations of both California-born In-N-Out Burger and Danny Meyer darling Shake Shack, chains whose expansion patterns have taken drastically different routes and led to minimal overlap. (Las Vegas was the first city where the two burgers could be had side-by-side, and Eater Vegas editor Susan Stapleton sampled the two in the same afternoon last year, albeit not on video.)

But in a city known mostly for its Tex-Mex and barbecue, Solares found it was possible to obtain both a Double-Double and a ShackBurger, and put the two up against each other in a test of flavor and nostalgia.

Which cheeseburger did Solares award with the top prize? Was it even possible to compare the two? Watch the video above to find out.
