'The Sims' to Enter a Brave New World: Restaurants

A significant move forward for one of the best-selling games of all time

A long-rumored expansion pack for the enduringly popular game 'The Sims' is finally on the way, and it opens up a major new option for the characters: full-on restaurant dining. Rumors of a restaurant-themed game pack for The Sims 4 have been swirling since last February, according to iDigitalTimes, and the addition will be released this spring.

Current Sims expansion packs allow the Sims to go out to bars, cafes, and clubs, but with few interactive options. This new addition will reportedly allow Sims to enter restaurants, make selections off a menu, pay the bill, and engage in any manner of restaurant date-night activities like dressing up for dinner, proposals, dining-and-dashing, and more. It will remain to be seen how trend-conscious said restaurants will be, though — will there be shared plates? Avocado toast? No-tipping policies? Perhaps some Sims will be able to open their own restaurants, too; players have previously had the option of choosing chef or even mixologist as a career path for their characters.

In the meantime, there are no shortage of other food-oriented games out there, including an Iron Chef-style game and a forthcoming mobile game from noted shouty TV chef Gordon Ramsay.
