Discrimination cases involving bakery owners and same-sex couples is unfortunately all too common. From Oregon to Colorado and , most recently, Texas, a number of homophobic bakeshops have refused service to gay customers and couples who wanted to purchase wedding cakes, citing their religious beliefs.
This week Saturday Night Live spoofs these business owners, casting an anti-gay bakery story as an inspirational, stick-it-to-the-man film where Christians are persecuted by the gay community. Comedian Vanessa Bayer plays Beth — "a small town baker without a care" whose "faith was tested" when she was asked to bake a cake for a same sex couple. It's "a story of liberal elites run wild." Watch Beth take the issue to court in the sketch above.
