A Behind the Scenes Look at Brunch at Animal

Spoiler alert: they make pastrami reuben benedict

Chefs Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo — the Los Angeles culinary duo behind the likes of Jon & Vinny’s, Trois Mec, and Son of a Gun — recently launched brunch service at Animal, their hot spot on Fairfax Avenue in Mid-City West.

Known for its meat-centric dishes and late-night clientele, Animal's foray into brunch maintains all of the edge of its dinner service. Watch Eater's behind the scenes look at some of their menu offerings, which range from barely-riffed-on (cornmeal waffle with apple and pecans) to definitely different (pastrami reuben benedict).

Here is the full list of menu items featured above, in chronological order:

Foie Gras Loco Moco, quail egg, Spam, hamburger

Pastrami reuben benedict, rye, sauerkraut, hollandaise, 1K island sauce, soft egg

Cornmeal waffle, apple, pecans, salted butter

"The Boner Burger," 420 sauce, jack cheese, poblano chili, red onion
