Of all the seasonal confections and candies, one of the most polarizing is arguably the Cadbury Creme Egg. While some people are inexplicably enchanted by these tooth-achingly sweet chocolate vessels, others find their sugary pseudo egg yolk filling to be both strange and reprehensible.
Is the Cadbury Creme Egg simply a sweet symbol of a thoroughly commercialized holiday that's swapped its religious iconography for the Easter bunny, or are there more sinister forces at play here? Are these sugary eggs in fact the product of (gasp) the Illuminati? Last Week Tonight host John Oliver marches in the footsteps of many a YouTube conspiracy theorist and follows the sticky trail of the Cadbury egg back to Freemasonry and yes, even Bono.
Whether or not you agree with Oliver's paranoid proselytizing, the HBO host does have some solid tasting notes on this beloved Easter candy, declaring, "The Cadbury Creme Egg is a terrible candy that tastes like mermaid placenta covered in candle wax."
