Watch: Seattle's Best Fried Chicken Has a Complicated Origin Story

Even Oprah loves this chicken

In this week's episode of Dining on a Dime, host Lucas Peterson checks out a Seattle dining scene icon: Ezell's Famous Chicken on 23rd Avenue, one of the oldest and most highly-regarded fried chicken restaurants in the city — and the entire Pacific Northwest.

The story of Ezell's is long and complicated, but it begins with two best friends from Texas, Ezell and Lewis, who wanted to open a restaurant together. With a little help from Oprah, the business thrived and expanded to multiple locations. But despite their success, the pair suffered a falling out and eventually parted ways, prompting Ezell to leave his namesake restaurant in the hands of his partner. Join Lucas as he visits the original Ezell's location to learn more about its famous chicken and sample an order for himself.
