Anthony Bourdain Aspires to Eat Bangers and Mash With Keith Richards

Globetrotting celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain enjoyed slurping noodles with President Obama, but the star of CNN’s Parts Unknown is still holding out hope of one day hooking up with a particular rock star hero: Keith Richards.

“I’ve been trying for years,” to work with Richards, Bourdain tells host Anthony Mason of CBS This Morning. “We’d eat like bangers and mash and maybe cook steak and kidney pie with Keith Richards and maybe talk about British naval history, which he’s a big fan of. I think that’d be super cool.”

The insanely busy chef is currently on a speaking tour and just released his latest book Appetites. In an interview with Mason, Bourdain reveals that he travels about 250 days a year (a schedule he’s maintained for the past 15 years). But when he’s back home in New York City, Bourdain says Lexington Avenue’s Pastrami Queen is his destination of choice. “This is my go-to. This is what I crave,” he says of the pastrami sandwich. “No matter how well I’ve been eating or where that might be this is the first thing I want and need.”

Despite aspiring to dine with a real life rockstar and being one of the biggest names in food right now, Bourdain says he doesn’t care to be fussed over when he goes out to eat. “I don’t want to be comped. I don’t want extra courses. Just serve me like anybody else.”

The chef-turned-TV host also had some choice words for chain restaurants. “A really carelessly made burger by a cynical large company — the contempt implicit in that transaction can really send me into a spiral of depression that will last for days,” he says.

The world-traveler doesn’t show any signs of slowing down soon. Zero Point Zero, Bourdain’s production company is cooking up a new documentary on food waste and the chef is also knee deep in the development of a New York City food hall.
