One of the most exclusive restaurants in the world has spawned a chef who will take his cooking to one of the highest places in the world — well, just below it. Noma alum James Sharman will launch a pop-up restaurant at base camp on Mount Everest next month, according to Fine Dining Lovers. It's part of a larger dinner series that will span 20 countries.
The Everest expedition is the fourth installment in the One Star House Party series, which Sharman plans to execute over the course of two years, the New York Times reported. The 25-year-old chef is focusing on creating each menu from experience, according to the Times, spending three weeks investigating, planning, and building the pop-up, then a week actually serving food. This was the process for the first three pop-ups in Beijing, Ho Chi Minh, and Bangkok, and the Nepal event will be just the same, except at 17,000 feet.
Reservations are now open for the 14-day adventure dinner in Nepal, which includes food, beverages, a casual hike to Everest base camp, construction of the pop-up, and then actually digging into the cuisine Sharman will prepare. The trip, scheduled for December 10 to December 23, checks out at $1,050. While it does not include flights to and from Nepal, it does come with a hotel in Kathmandu to begin and end the trip, boarding in guest houses during the trek to base camp, porters, guides, gear, and more. To reserve a space for this adventure dining expedition, interested parties must register by November 29. They should maybe work in some last-minute altitude training too.
