Watch: Anthony Bourdain Goes to Japan With Sushi Legend Masa Takayama

They'll feast on wild boar, giant scallops, fresh uni, and more

On the next Parts Unknown, Anthony Bourdain returns to Japan — and while he's visited the country numerous times, he's barely scraped the surface of what it has to offer. In this Sunday's episode, Bourdain is accompanied by one hell of a tour guide: sushi legend Masa Takayama, owner of eponymous high-end and very spendy restaurants in cities including New York and Vegas.

Bourdain and Takayama tour Kanazawa's outdoor food markets where they sample massive oysters, fresh-from-the-sea uni, and grilled eel livers; have tea with a former geisha; and indulge in the omakase at Tokyo's prestigious Sushi Ko.

Chef Masa also takes Bourdain with him to a friend's house for a living room cookout that far surpasses anything you've probably hosted in your backyard: Freshly caught fish, Hokkaido scallops, quail, and wild boar are cooked over a traditional Japanese sunken hearth known as an irori.

The Japan episode premieres this Sunday at 9 p.m. PST/EST.
