Yuengling Just Endorsed Donald Trump, and It’s Not Going Over Well

America’s oldest brewery maybe just became America’s most hated brewery?

America’s oldest brewery appears to have thrown its support behind Donald Trump. Trump’s son Eric paid a visit to the Pottsville, Penn.-based D. G. Yuengling & Son earlier this week, when Richard Yuengling Jr. reportedly said, "Our guys are behind your father. We need him in there," according to the Reading Eagle.

Yuengling, who is a fifth-generation operator of the brewery, played host to Eric Trump on Monday. The Republican presidential candidate’s son declared the brewery "an amazing American success story." The tour was part of a daylong visit to Pennsylvania, which is considered a battleground state in the 2016 presidential election.

Eric Trump used the visit as an opportunity to tow his father’s party line that American businesses are under threat from high taxes and regulations: "My father's going to make it a lot easier for business to function," he said, according to the Eagle. The response from Yuengling has beer drinkers in a social media uproar. Some are praising his support of Trump, but Business Insider reports others are vowing to never consume another sip of Yuengling beer.

Eric Trump, who may prefer pilfered lemonade, shared a photo of himself with Yuengling, prompting a veritable tweetstorm from followers on both sides of the aisle.

Some former Yuengling fans have taken to giving the brewery one-star reviews on Facebook in response to the news. Yuengling has not responded to an Eater request for comment.
