Watch Mario Batali and Jimmy Kimmel Eat Ooey Gooey Butter Cake

And a few other things from his new book, Mario Batali Big American Cookbook

Fresh off his stint at the White House, orange Croc-loving chef Mario Batali is out promoting his new cookbook, Mario Batali Big American Cookbook: 250 Recipes from Across the USA. Last night he stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to demonstrate a few recipes from the book, which is organized by region in the U.S. Because Kimmel's wife is from St. Louis, Batali opted to make recipes from the Heartland chapter: Toasted ravioli and ooey gooey butter cake.

After Batali explains how the cake is made — "like a regular cake but with goo" — Kimmel gives it a taste and aptly describes it as "like cake that didn't cook all the way and then you give it to your friends anyway." Finally, the two bros experiment by deep frying a slice of the cream cheese and butter-laden cake. Will they create a new recipe fit for Batali's next book? Watch the full clip, above.
