Watch: Make Gummy Candy With Booze Because You’re an Adult

These aren't your average lunchbox treat

This week on You Can Do This!, tips and tricks guru Clifford Endo shows us how to make what is arguably the best lunchbox treat even better: gushers — filled with a surprising kick. Could these fruity but dangerous sweets bump Jello shots out of the top spot in the Retro Snacks Hall of Fame? Watch the video above to find out, and use the recipe below to recreate them at home.

Boozy Gummy Candy

1 box fruit leather
250 grams coconut rum
4 grams agar agar

Blender
Set of ring cutters
Squeeze bottle
Silicone mold

In a small pot over induction or electric heat on low, add the coconut rum. Once warm, whisk in agar agar until fully incorporated, and for at least 30 additional seconds.

Pour rum mixture into a container and chill in the fridge until set, at least one hour.

Remove the now gelled alcohol from the fridge and scoop into a blender. Blend until a smooth, gel-like consistency is achieved. Place gel in squeeze bottle.

Select two sizes of ring cutters, one slightly larger than the other. Cut an equal amount of large and small circles out of the fruit leather.

Press the larger of the two circles into the mold, and fill with gel to just under the rim. Lay the second circle of fruit leather over the top and press the edges to seal.

Release the boozy gummy candy from the mold and enjoy. Coat in a bit of cornstarch or powdered sugar to make them transportable, so they do not stick together.
