Since Starbucks unveiled its seasonal Pumpkin Spice Latte 13 years ago, the seasonal flavor has become a full-fledged cultural phenomenon, serving as both a harbinger of fall and a kind of shorthand for everything “basic.” Now, the seasonal invasion of pumpkin spice everything has spilled over into the shoe department.
Behold, the new “Pumpkin Spice” Grid SD from Saucony, as reported by sneaker blog Nice Kicks. Someone on the brand’s design team is clearly harboring a deep affection for the seasonal gourd-inspired coffee drink: Not only do the shoes feature autumnal colors of burnt orange and coffee brown, but the tongues are emblazoned with a leaf-shaped latte art design to drive the theme home. The shoes will hit Saucony’s website on October 21, and will presumably show up on the feet of only the most die-hard PSL enthusiasts shortly thereafter.
Considering the cavalcade of pumpkin spice products currently saturating the market — including protein powder, Pop Tarts, cereal, and salsa — it was clearly just a matter of time until someone decided to cater to the (presumably rather niche) sneakerheads-who-happen-to-love-PSLs demographic.
If sporting latte art on your feet doesn’t appeal, there are plenty of other food- and beverage-inspired sneakers already on the market, from Nike Dunks featuring chicken and waffles to pizza-print Vans slip-ons.
