— Waffle Houses are opening back up in the wake of Hurricane Matthew, as Eater Charleston reports. Late last week nearly 50 locations of the 24-hour chain closed in response to mandatory evacuations due to the storm. Locations throughout Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida are reopening gradually this week.

— Speaking of Hurricane Matthew: The category 4 hurricane inflicted terrible damage on Haiti. The Wall Street Journal reports residents are receiving health care and treatment for injuries but are experiencing food shortages. Looting is affecting grocery stores and small bodegas. Humanitarian aid is on the way, but food and water shortages threaten more lives still.
