Keeping up with the food-delivery craze, Amazon Prime announced today that Prime Now customers in Seattle may now order delivery from local restaurants like Cactus, Wild Ginger, Marination Station, and others. Using the Prime Now mobile app, customers in Seattle can access participating restaurant's menus, place orders, track order status, and expect an Amazon delivery driver to arrive with their order within the hour. Rumors of the delivery service first broke last month.
Amazon's restaurant delivery service is free, for now
The service is only available in select parts of Seattle as of today, but Amazon plans to expand the service throughout the city by year's end. Seattle residents can download the app and enter their zip code to see if the service is available in their area. Delivery is free for now; Customers can pay for their orders using the payment method already stored on their Amazon account.
Amazon attempted to deliver restaurant meals last summer as part of its Amazon Local app, but quickly removed the option. As part of a relaunch, the company began testing food delivery last month before making it official today. This is one of many new food delivery options for Amazon customers. Just last week, the company began offering alcohol delivery and testing out the delivery of farm-fresh produce.
