Today, the Michelin Guide bestowed a whole new series of stars on London and the U.K. in the new 2016 guides. Notably absent from the guides this year is Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck, which had been a three Michelin-starred restaurant up until its temporary move to Australia earlier this year. Blumenthal will have to win those stars back, as the restaurant did not re-open in time for Michelin's critics to give it a full assessment.
Meanwhile, the guide has awarded 15 new restaurants a single star — which it now describes as "High quality cooking, worth a stop" — including Lyle's, Bonhams, Portland, and the Dining Room at the Goring in London. The Man Behind the Curtain (Leeds); John's House (Loughborough); The Cellar in Anstruther (Scotland); Eipic (Belfast); and the Greenhouse (Dublin) also received a star in this year's guide.
Two new restaurants — Araki and Umu in London — now have two stars each.
There are 25 new restaurants on Michelin's Bib Gourmand list, which highlights casual restaurants worth a trip.
Michelin's new guide to Great Britain and Ireland, as well as its new London Guide for 2016 (which "provides extended text on London's restaurants, with additional photographs and information on all Starred establishments") hits bookstores today. Find the full list below.
